Why are policies failing? Forest transitions are not ecological
Claude Garcia thrives to understand the links between the environment and livelihood in tropical landscapes. He is particularly interested in how farmers and forest dwellers will cope with change, be it environmental, technological or political, and in the impact on biodiversity of their coping strategies. Claude maintains that in order for agricultural production to be compatible with biodiversity conservation and rural livelihoods in the tropics, we need to develop approaches that better recognize farmers’ aspirations, needs and constraints.
